Cables and Lace Convertible Shawl/Poncho! Knit Pattern

Full color pattern to knit a Cables and Lace poncho that can be converted into a shawl.

Two identical pieces are knit. Then...
For traditional poncho: Both pieces are stitched together (as pictured above and center left).
For convertible shawl/poncho: An openwork crochet border is added around both rectangles. Twelve 2-sided buttons are constructed. The finished pieces can then be buttoned together anywhere in the borders to form either a shawl or a poncho.

Yarn: Patons Divine (4 3.5 oz 100g balls). Other super bulky yarns may be substituted.

Needles: US 15 or size to obtain gauge.

Supplies for Optional Crochet Border and Buttons: US I or J hook; 14 1-diameter plastic rings; and 14 3/4-diameter decorative buttons with shank.

Gauge: 15 sts = 6 and 8 rows = 2 in cables & lace pattern.

Skill Building: While the stitches for this pattern are not complex, it is very difficult to correct errors. Stitches used are k, p, yo, and C4B (cable twist). Instructions for optional crochet border and buttons are also included (pictured bottom left).
